NAD27 to NAD83 Conversion Consulting
In the coming years companies operating in the Oil and Gas Industry will have to come to terms with an industry wide movement from using the NAD27 Geodetic Datum as their data reference system to using the newer and more precise NAD83 Geodetic Datum. This will be a monumental issue for the industry, as the great majority of historic and current spatial data i stored and managed using NAD27. OutSource Seismic Consultants Inc. is pleased to offer, as a new service to our clients, assistance in managing, converting and implementing spatial data to the new NAD83 Geodetic Datum.

Why NAD83?
NAD83 corrects inherent errors and distortions that have occurred over time and distance with NAD27 (errors of up to +/- 250m between the different datums).
As of 1990, the Government of Canada adopted the NAD83 as its Geodetic Datum. Alberta and Saskatchewan have also set timelines for when ADEPT and EAS submissions must be sent as NAD83.
The Government of British Columbia uses and accepts ONLY NAD83.
Industry Tactics
The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) has recommended to its members to adopt NAD83 by the 2nd quarter of 2008.
NAD27 to NAD83 conversion standards have been set to NTv2 which is the industry approved algorithm for performing the conversion.
A number of different software vendors have developed programs to assist in the conversion of database and individual datasets.
